and he was then
appointed the Programme
Director for the
consortium.
Inspired and
humbled by this
recognition,
Cyril offered
the team
leadership that
always proved to
offer the
consortium
inspiration to
better reach and
impact of Khomanani (HSRC:
2008, Khomanani:
2009, TNS: 2009
& NCS: 2009).
Cyril worked for
the then Johncom
(now Avusa Ltd)
as a Programme
Manager of
Khomanani, a
role that many
regarded as very
challenging due
to the then
health political
environment. He
is the first
manager to offer
the campaign a
consistent
project
management for
more than 5
years. His
tenure was
mostly
recognized for
initiating
integration
between the then
2 tenders (mass
media and PR)
that operated in
silos between
Avusa Ltd and
Meropa
Communication in
2004. It was
during this
period that
Cyril mastered
the ‘rules of
engagement’ in
in-depth Project
Management,
Public Health
and
Communication.
This is also
confirmed by the
recognition from
Family Health
International (FHI/US:
April 2009) that
has indentified
Cyril as one of
the most
influential
individuals in
HIV and AIDS
environment.
John Snow Inc.
and John Hopkins
Health and
Education SA
also affirm this
testimonial from
their experience
of working with
him and his
company.
From 2003, Cyril
was a Deputy
Director of
PPASA national
programmes
(which was then
in partnership
with loveLife on
various
projects). At
PPASA, he was
given the
challenging task
of consolidating
different
international
donor funding (UNHCR,
UNDF, Japanese
Embassy, IPPF
and SA
Government) and
provided an
integrated
approach of
dealing with
donor
institutions at
that time. Cyril
also integrated
M&E function
within this
responsibility.
He also
facilitated the
visit by the
Lagos Education
Ministry through
Action Health.
Lately Cyril
also shared his
experience on
development
communication
with visitors
from the BBC
World Service
Trust and
Nigerian AIDS
Coordinating
Council (Perry,
Aro, Sam, Deji).
Cyril’s upward
trajectory in
public health
education began
at Gauteng
Education as an
Education
Specialist in
1997. He
participated in
the development
of policies
(National HIV
and AIDS and
Teenage
Pregnancy) and
implementation
of projects. He
managed the
school mass
mobilisation
campaigns and
the mentoring to
new team
members. He
sought funding
from private
organisations
for the
sustainability
of certain
projects.
Cyril people’s
skills were also
nurtured while
at Lead the
Field Africa
(for the SA
National Force/SANDF)
during the
Service Corps
Incorporation
project (former
freedom fighters
integrated in
the army) period
in 1996, as a
Coordinator.
During this
project, Cyril
was involved in
the life skills
training
project.
Although the
project posed
enormous
challenges to
most, it is
during this
project where
Cyril mastered
his humility and
focus on a job
at hand.
Cyril has
credits towards
MPH in
Communication at
Wits. He is
currently
enrolled for an
Advance Health
Management
Programme with
FPD College. He
has PDM with
Stellenbosch
University,
Psychology and
Education with
University of
Limpopo,
Counselling with
University of
Johannesburg, as
well as HR and
Project
Management
qualifications
with Damelin.
His
interpersonal
skills navigates
very well from
ordinary
community
members to CEO’s
of big
corporates
(including main
broadcasters in
SA), senior
government
officials
(including
politicians),
and senior civil
society
stakeholders.
Cyril is
currently a
community
builder and
governing body
member at his
daughter’s high
school.
Travelling,
reading and
sport are some
of his hobbies. |
